Outdoor Exposure: SCUBA DIVING
The Scuba Diving course operates with our scuba diving partners at Pisces School of Dive
in East Rochester, and has worked with our pool partners at Clinton-Baden Community Center
on North Clinton Avenue. Through this course, we are offering inclusive introduction to
diving classes, through Pisces’ DISCOVER SCUBA classes. These classes are designed to
give people a taste of what scuba is all about or to act as a refresher course for people
who may not have dived in 20 years!
In Year’s 1 and 2, we offered a slight variation on the program in order to train and provide
experience for Pisces School of Dive instructors. This year, Year 3, Pisces is ready to take
on the challenge of incorporating accessible, integrated classes into their curriculum as a
standard, rather than an exception! We are excited for them as they take on this business
adventure! And we are thankful for their willingness to do this!
Classes are held in an accessible pool. People with and without disabilities find themselves
engrossed in the wonders of breathing underwater and becoming fish-like! The course is designed
in a recreational context, where the use of games and activities teaches the skills needed to scuba.
Individuals are given the opportunity to advance at their own pace within a group setting. At the
end of the class, if you are “hooked” on diving, you can sign up for more instruction with Pisces staff!
