Outdoor Exposure: AQUATICS
The Aquatics program works with our partners at Clinton-Baden Community Center at 497 N. Clinton
(Map).
For many years, CDR has worked in the pool at this community center, providing swimming lessons,
instructions, aerobic workouts, and general support for people who have some degree of disability,
including arthritis, knee and back problems, and age-related issues.
Through the Outdoor Exposure program, we are taking steps to develop a more robust, year-round
program that supports the integration of people with disabilities into all of the adult aquatics
programs offered at the center.
The pool is a warm-water pool (around 82 degrees most days), has gradual steps into the water,
and also has a pool-side lift for easier access.
Our goal in Year Two is to hire an Aquatics Instructor and a Specialized Lifeguard to oversee the
development of the program.
In addition, we will incorporate an Aquatics Volunteer Staff base into the program to provide
hands-on support and stability for people who need more 1:1 assistance in the water.
Current pool times that are open for people with disabilities are as follows:
M, W, F, 11:00AM-12NOON, year-round, following the Community Center's scheduled
opening and closing dates. Stay tuned for more access!
